Ceil Chapman was a New York City fashion designer, best remembered as one of Marilyn Monroe's favorite clothing designers. She is sought out for her curve-hugging cocktail dresses featuring flattering draping and this floral silk cocktail dress is a wonderful example of her work. The draping on this dress is more intricate than some other examples of her work that we have offered: crisscrossed on the left side and pulled from left to right with a drape falling across the skirt toward the left creating a front swag. The dress has an almost off-the-shoulder neckline and tailored to fit in the bust, waist and hips. Plastic zipper up the back. Black on white "Ceil Chapman" label.

Condition: Very Good/Excellent. Clean with no holes, loose seams, or noticeable issues. The draping is all secured. Not noticeable, but very slight darkening of the fabric along the shoulders. Three one strand pulls, one on the left side chest and two on the back shoulder. There is a very slight water splotch on the right hip and a slight yellow spot on the back skirt, both unnoticeable. Two repairs to the inside lining at the front kick pleat, not visible. The zipper was replaced with a nylon zipper and the right side of the zipper seam has some machine sewing.
